Meet the webmistress
Gre-ta-X (Kreh-taah---eks - (sur)name)
1. Title of a B-side on the single from Adam & the Ants - 80's)
2. Pseudonym (alias) of the webmistress
This page is dedicated to a bit of personal HIStory of the Antfan calling HERself GretaX. A 'little' something about the author of this website. If you are not, or no longer interested than please feel free to leave this page at any time...
However, if you decided to 'stick with the program' I hope you will read it all...
Facts of live.
First of all: I actually don't go through live being called GretaX, my real name is Merel.
I am a green eyed, XXXL Dutch girl born on the 19th of January 1967, wich makes me a capricorn (and a dinosaur according to my two childeren). I have a son called Rowland (1993) and a daughter called Anouschka (1990). I'm married to Ron (1960) and the four of us are living in Zaandam (near Amsterdam) in a dike-house. Ron's a civil servant, I work as a dental assistent.
Personal likes and loves:
I like simple things; a glass of Tia Maria on the rocks, a good book and the couch to myself, being with family and friends and playing games like Mah-Jongg (the original tile game, not the computergame) or scrabble, makin' creative arty stuff, having fun and a good laugh, having sex & making love (not the same, mind you!), listening to all kinds of music (Antmusic is my banner!) and I you can get me a McFlurry Oreo anytime ![]()
Personal dislikes:
Deceitful and dishonest people, being flat broke before the end of the month, pea soup and Pina Colada. I fear spiders and I absolutely HATE fog... (don't ask). I hate the fact that youth IS waisted on the young.
Wanna know what really shakes my tree? > Music!
I love listening to all kinds of music (except those tearjerkers sang in my own language, double yuck, yuck!). I like music from 60's, 70's and 80's but at the age of 13 something changed... This dude dressed up in a blaze of lipgloss, black leather pants and a Dick Turpin outfit whiped by, telling me to 'Stand & Deliver'. Right there on MTV... I still remember sitting in front of the telly... looking... knowing... drooling!
I used to spend about all my allowance on posters, singles, albums, magazines etc. My room must have looked like any Antfan's teen room, completely covered with Adam and his Ants (remember the lipstick kisses on all posters ladies :o). The funniest thing: I thought to be the only one in my immediate surroundings ever to have noticed these great warrior-like pirates with their great sound! But then again I guess I would have hated it if just everybody would have been an Antfan... (WHAT?!? Yeh..) I guess Antmusic has always been my way of saying; THIS IS ME - Fuck you! I'm not your ordinary 'teenager-O-the-day'.
Despite of the fact that I've always considered myself to be a mentally strong and balanced person, It's my belief that I probably didn't make it through puberty if it wasn't for Antmusic and the dandy highwayman with his shaking blackleather hips and lipgloss!
Allthough Antmusic wil always be my no1 musical love and passion, there is also artists like Billy Joel, the Army of Lovers (Figures, another buch of dress-up oddballs :o) and a million other bands ... Some of my non-Ant favorites are: 'O Lord (please don't let me be misunderstood)' by Santa Esmeralda (long 15 minute version), 'Don't Go' from Yazoo (brings up the sweet memories of great friends), 'Weather with you' by Crowded House, 'Always a woman' by Billy Joel, 'Perfect' by Fairground Attraction and... the most beautiful lovesong ever writen: 'Annie's Song' by John Denver... I don't think there can ever been a more beautiful way of saying; 'I love you'.
You can also take me to any concert of Jamiroquai, Rammstein, Fat Boy Slim or Tom Jones (Ahrg! Yes, the senior-sexmachine) or to a violin concert by Nigel Kenedy! I would give my right kidney for one more live Queen concert with Freddy at the helm. Both my kidneys for a full live Adam And The Ants / Adam Ant reunion concert! Fortunately I am one of the lucky people to have been at the Bloomsbury Bookreading concert!!! That'll do Mr. Ant. That'll do...
Nigel Kennedy on the violin. This number is called 'Melody in the wind'. If you'd like to hear him blow away on the electric violin, skip to 4:10 minutes ...
My personal funeral music list
My favourite Antsong?
Sorry, like them all, non excluded! (Yep... even 'Why do girls like horses' (giving a wink to Ant Lady)). Ok, some are slightly better than the others but that's it. Though I admid to 'Room at the Top' being my feel-good song. And I like 'Rough stuff', 'Kick!', 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier', 'Red Scab', 'Vive Le Rock' (one of the long versions), 'Vampires', 'Little Devil' and 'Persuasion' and, and, and... O boy, here I go... stop me! haha!
Best album in my collection?
'B-Side Babiez' and I really like 'Manners & Physique'. But one of the few I guess... well, I don't give a shit, like it anyways!
My most cherished Ant-possession?
My Antwarrior Tattoo! Oh, and that ridiculous lampshade made out of circles. Will take a picture of it someday to show but no doubt more of you Antfans have this monster hanging somewhere :o)
Ant-Qoute:
A quote from Adam Ant, taken from the Rock Family Trees (BBC) interview;
----------
"When we finally got on the TV and we finally had the opportunity to not have to answer to anybody but the public, the public embraced kinda all the elements, like they do with any pop band that's the beauty of pop.. is that, you know, everything you do gets embraced, everything you say means something. Even though it may be meaningless, it means something to a generation of kids who don't wanna listen to anybody else, they wanna listen to you cause they like the way you look and they like the way you sound… and you give them something for a couple of years.."
----------
Well Mr Adam Ant, thank you for a lovely "... couple of years ..."
Hell you've done it!
